Ireland trailblazes with first ever Irish Junior Mini Sumo Robot Tournament. The Galway Education Centre on the west coast of Ireland, hosted Irish students from all over the country and led the way as they competed in the inaugural Irish Junior Mini Sumo Robot Tournament - the first tournament of its kind in either Ireland or the UK. The team of Francis Oandasan Eileen DeSouza and Matthew Murphy from Tullamore College Co. Offaly emerged victorious after almost five hours of battle which saw them go head to head ( robot to robot) with the team from Villlers College Limerick who fought a courageous and feisty battle!.Run by Robotics Ireland, the critical aim of this event was to encourage young Irish students to recognise the vital role which Robots will play in all of our futures and to inspire them to embrace this in a creative and fun way. 84 students from 9 schools all over the country competed against each other over the course of the day to see which of their 40 robots would survive and claim the title Irish Junior Mini Sumo Robot Champion for the very first time.
