  • 03/06/2013 The Galway Education Centre kicked off its annual Education Extravaganza with the 12th annual Write A Book Awards ceremony. Over 8,000 young authors wrote books in Irish and English for this years event. All of the prize winners attending have composed, written, illustrated and bound their own individual books. During the next three days over 3,000 school children from all over Ireland will come to Galway to spectate and compete in various educational and fun challenges and competitions. Repro free.Ireland trailblazes with first ever Irish Junior Mini Sumo Robot Tournament..Niamh Kennedy with her robot Brownie from Villers school Limerick at the Galway Education Centre on the west coast of Ireland who hosted Irish students from all over the country and led the way as they competed in the inaugural Irish Junior Mini Sumo Robot Tournament - the first tournament of its kind in either Ireland or the UK.  Run by Robotics Ireland, the critical aim of this event was to encourage young Irish students to recognise the vital role which Robots will play in all of our futures and to inspire them to embrace this in a creative and fun way. 84 students from 9 schools all over the country competed against each other over the course of the day to see which of their 40 robots would survive and claim the title Irish Junior Mini Sumo Robot Champion for the very first time  Photo:Andrew Downes..

  • As part of their Healthy Living Initiative, The Medtronic Foundation partners with The Galway Education Centre to run a number of programmes in Galway City and County schools.  This year over 50 different schools and took part over the 2 night’s  at the event in the Radisson Blu and showcased their projects in various display categories such as; the Healthy Living “Great Outdoors” Mural; Origami exhibits; The Heart & Circulatory System and a number of Garden displays. 3 teams also competed in the final of the Lean Sigma-Catapult Challenge.   • Ireland trailblazes with first ever Irish Junior Mini Sumo Robot Tournament.The Galway Education Centre on the west coast of Ireland, hosted Irish students from all over the country and led the way as they competed in the inaugural Irish Junior Mini Sumo Robot Tournament - the first tournament of its kind in either Ireland or the UK. The team of Francis Oandasan Eileen DeSouza and Matthew Murphy from Tullamore College Co. Offaly emerged victorious after almost five hours of battle which saw them go head to head ( robot to robot) with the team from Villlers College Limerick who fought a courageous and feisty battle!.Run by Robotics Ireland, the critical aim of this event was to encourage young Irish students to recognise the vital role which Robots will play in all of our futures and to inspire them to embrace this in a creative and fun way. 84 students from 9 schools all over the country competed against each other over the course of the day to see which of their 40 robots would survive and claim the title Irish Junior Mini Sumo Robot Champion for the very first time.
